![]() Archive 2007-2006 May 2007 - New Administrator for CBN-MC The members of CBN-MC have been blessed for many years to have CBN-MC Founder, Paul Zurkowski, at the helm handling day-to-day operations and nurturing long-term goals for the organization. Beginning in May, CBN-MC member Peg Duchesne assumes the role of Administrator. Paul plans to continue working with his daughter, Paula, and her real estate business, Ready Real Estate. April 26, 2007 - 8th Annual CBN-MC Annual Coaches Hall of Fame Luncheon The CBN-MC 8th Annual Youth Coaches Hall of Fame Luncheon was held on Thursday, April 26th. Awards were presented to a husband and wife coaching team, Patti and Eddie Ribas of St. Jude's Parish, Montgomery County States Attorney John J. McCarthy, St. John the Baptist Parish and Rory S. Coakley, long time chairman of this event. March 13, 2007 - CBN-MC Annual Scholarship Lunch The CBN-MC Scholarship and Grant Foundation awarded scholarships to a dozen 8th Graders, winners of the 2007 CBN-MC Essay Competition. December 14, 2006 - CBN MC Liturgy Reflection ![]() CBN-MC celebrated Liturgy in the Historic Church of St. Mary’s in Rockville with their spiritual advisor, Msgr. John Myslinski on Thursday, December 14th. With tapered candles, beautiful harp played music, we found ourselves deep in reflective thoughts during this season of hope. Msgr. John reflected on the transformational effect “One Solitary Life” of Jesus has had on the world. As business leaders, we’re challenged to bring that hope of life in Christ into the very world that rejected him. Pray often, and give thanks for the blessings in your life. November 20, 2006 - CBN MC Foundation Hits High High Note at Annual Gala ![]() CBN-MC welcomed Archbishop Wuerl to it's annual Gala on Friday, November 17th at the North Bethesda Marriott & Conference Center. "This is a celebration of Pat Clancy and his family" said the new Archbishop; "What's more important is that you all make Catholic Education possible." Among the more than 450 people that attended this year, there were pastors, teachers, principals, scholarship winning students, business owners and of course several notables from the county government and the Archdiocese of Washington. "This really helped everyone see the impact that CBN has on the Washington Metropolitan Area, "said Rob Smith, chair of this year's record setting Gala. "The Catholic economic engine is alive and well, and we're making a difference in our community." Rob helped welcome County Executive-Elect Ike Leggett, along with Dottie Fitzgerald, of Fitzgerald AutoMalls. Just two tables away, Emcee Sue Palka of Fox Five News made sure the room recognized and gave a warm welcome to County Executive Doug Duncan. "You have done an amazing job." In accepting the award, Mr. Clancy said that he's had a great model of living Catholic faith, in his wife Mary Ann. Both Mr. Clancy's sons were on hand to celebrate his award as Catholic Business Person of the Year. Mr. Clancy's remarks were a call to action for all Catholics in business "Business is a great opportunity to make a difference." November 8, 2006 - CBN Announces Premier Endowment Partners Chevy Chase Bank & Donohoe CBN has established an Endowment in an effort to create a secure future for the funding of scholarships for students to attend Catholic High Schools serving the needs of Montgomery County Students. Thanks to the generosity of Chevy Chase Bank and Donohoe, along with countless individuals, CBN will begin to fulfill it's strategic goal of the Endowment. "It's a great tribute to the grass roots effort of so many business leaders" said John Matteo, Past President and author of the Scholarship Program. "We have really been fortunate to have had the long standing support of the Catholic Business community. This is the next step in leaving a legacy for our youth." October 25, 2006 - Lt. Governor Michael Steele Surprises CBN speaker Catherine Meloy ![]() When Catherine Meloy from Goodwill Industries agreed to speak at the October CBN breakfast, she had no idea what she was going to be talking about until the night before when she joined her husband in evening prayer. She could not have imagined that she'd be sharing the stage in prayer Lt. Governor Michael Steele. Steele was a guest of Peter Murphy from the Archdiocese of Washington. Wearing her newly printed, direct from the candidate "Women of Steele" T-Shirt, Catherine lit up the stage as she identified that the kind of work place employees are looking for in businesses today can be found throughout countless references in Scripture. October 14, 2006 - John Matteo to be Awarded CBN Founder's Zurkowski Award ![]() In a surprise tribute, the Board of Directors for CBN has selected John Matteo as the recipient of this year's Founder's Award. John has been a pillar of strength and brings an unbridled enthusiasm to CBN, and is often relied on for his ability to quickly get things done. John's greatest pride in his work on behalf of CBN is the development of the scholarship program that has flourished since his creation. CBN could find no greater tribute than to thank John for his continued leadership with the Paul Zurkowski Founders Award. July 28, 2006 - Mr. George P.(Pat) Clancy, Jr. Named CBN Business Person of the Year ![]() Mr. Clancy, Executive Vice President with Chevy Chase Bank, will accept the award at the 13th Annual CBN Gala & Auction on Friday, November 17, 2006 at 6:30pm at the North Bethesda Marriott & Conference Center in Rockville, Maryland. Mr. Clancy has dedicated his life to working on behalf of others, following the principal in Catholic Social Teaching in the belief of the "dignity of the human person" through his work with Catholic Charities and countless other organizations dedicated to serving those most at risk. Zurkowski Founder's Award was instituted in October 2003 as a means of honoring the innovative, pioneering, and sustaining work of CBN's visionary founder, Paul G. Zurkowski. This award is our highest tribute to an individual for his or her zeal for the continued success of the Catholic Business Network of Montgomery County and its mission of practicing our faith in the marketplace, sharing our Catholic values, exchanging business opportunities, and supporting Catholic education.The award is presented annually to a member of CBN-MC who, like Paul, displays an outstanding passion for CBN-MC and its success and shares the spirit and ideals that Paul has exemplified.
